“Embracing Emotional Challenges: Understanding Why We Get Upset”
Salutations to all, be it kings, queens, or peasants. Welcome to today's "KT of the day", where we dive into a compelling topic: "Why do we allow ourselves to get upset?"
I'll preface this by saying we're not orthodox; we are complex beings who've been conditioned to function within societal norms. We evolve constantly—growing wiser, stronger, faster, smarter—breaking records, reaching new heights daily. Hence, complacency and stagnation are not options. Levels of understanding and awareness differ among individuals, which partially explains why we get upset. Every tier of comprehension has its boundaries, and when we encounter unfamiliar concepts, situations, or scenarios, it challenges our perceived control over our environment and ourselves. This can lead to frustration and feelings of unfairness.
Take, for example, a child learning to ride a bike. Initially, every fall is frustrating, but as they gradually master their balance, a sense of accomplishment and self-worth grows. Now, imagine this child watching another child of the same age performing a wheelie. The first child, filled with amazement and a bit of competition, attempts the same trick but falls. Everyone watches, and the child feels exposed, vulnerable, and out of control. The immediate reaction is to get upset, not because they're inherently ill-natured, but because their understanding of bike-riding hasn't yet evolved to accommodate this new trick.
As adults, we too experience similar situations—times when we believe we've mastered a skill or gotten comfortable in a pattern, only to be disrupted by new variables. These disruptions challenge our sense of control, leading us to feel upset and in some cases, unjustly treated. It's essential to remember that complacency can be a hindrance to growth. The fear of the unknown, coupled with an unwillingness to adapt and learn, can leave us stuck in our tracks, filled with resentment and anger.
Getting upset often results in self-inflicted mental and physical damage. We often get caught in the spiral of this negativity, not realizing that these challenges and hardships are opportunities for growth and maturity. The key is to embrace life in its entirety, understand that change and discomfort are part of the growth process, and recognize the benefits of facing and overcoming challenges.
Next time life throws you a curveball, don't see it as an obstacle but as a system upgrade, a necessary step to becoming a better version of yourself. Just like our smartphones require periodic updates to fix glitches, we too need to embrace these life upgrades. It might seem frustrating at the moment, but it's always beneficial in the long run.
Being upset or angry at anything in life indicates a lack of self-control and understanding of life's dynamics. Instead of holding onto grudges, allow yourself to grow from the experience. Appreciate all life's moments, especially those that challenge you and push you to evolve.
In conclusion, love the journey of life, for it's the greatest adventure you'll embark upon. Cherish every moment of your existence, and don't let the inevitable challenges dampen your spirit or waste your time. Remember, life will keep moving forward, and so should you. Embrace every 'upgrade', every learning opportunity, and remember: do your own thinking!
